Foods Which You Should Avoid Refrigerating or Freezing at All Costs

Refrigeration is a great way to keep food fresh longer, and freezing is even more effective. However, there are some foods which do not react well to be refrigerated or frozen. These foods suffer changes in taste or texture which make them unpalatable when they get too cold.
1. Potatoes
Potatoes may change colour in either the refrigerator or freezer. They will also suffer from a gritty texture due to the breakdown of starches. Cook potatoes before storing them in the refrigerator and avoid freezing them altogether.
2. Tomatoes
Putting tomatoes in the refrigerator can change their texture and make them less flavour full. Putting them in the freezer makes these effects even worse. Store fresh tomatoes at room temperature, or keepthem to save for later.
3. Onions
onions are best stored at room temperature because the humidity of the refrigerator makes them soften and mild. Chopped onions should be stored in the refrigerator, but try to use them quickly. Avoid freezing onions entirely as this will make them mushy.
4. Anything Fried
In the refrigerator, fried foods will quickly become limp. If they are stored in the freezer, they will also get soggy. Unfortunately, there is no great way to store fried items, so they are best eaten when fresh.
5. Milk
Milk should not be frozen, because it will separate in the freezer. The same is true of many other dairy products, such as yogurt and sour cream. It is also true of sauces that contain cream, such as tomato cream or Besciamelle sauces.
6. Cooked Rice
Rice that is stored in the freezer quickly becomes mealy and mushy. The effects of freezing rice are similar to overcooking it. Store cooked rice in the refrigerator, instead, to avoid this problem.
7. Cooked Eggs
Cooked egg whites that are stored in the freezer become rubbery and tasteless. Yolks can be frozen somewhat more successfully, but avoid freezing things made with whole eggs or egg whites. Store leftover cooked eggs in the refrigerator.
8. Basil
Basil is a relatively sensitive herb that does not withstand freezing temperatures well. If it gets too cold, it will turn black and lose most of its flavour. It can usually be stored for a short period of time in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator, though.
9. Mushrooms
Mushrooms are made of 98 percent water, and freezing them can cause them to get soggy and mushy. The freezing process causes the ice to crystallize and expand, which bursts the cell walls of the mushroom. When they are thawed, the result is a soggy, mushy texture.
